Rio de Janeiro (RJ)—The Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS), an international organisation that brings together associations, institutes and philanthropic foundations, is holding this week in Rio de Janeiro, a working meeting of the Global Consultation on Philanthropy Data.

The project consists of a consultation to various actors involved in the construction and management of databases on philanthropic actions developed in an institutionalized way in the world—through institutes and foundations, for example—in search of reliable and comparable information worldwide.

The initiative is in partnership with the Foundation Center, the American institution dedicated to organising data on philanthropy, and has the support of the C&A Institute.

The project’s objective is to generate strategic thinking on the extent and nature of the challenges of access to information on philanthropy, explore ways to improve data collection and work toward a common vision, as well as a set of principles for the organisation of information about philanthropy worldwide.

The meeting in Rio de Janeiro takes place between 27th February and 1st March and should gather about 20 participants from different regions of the planet, especially knowledge managers, researchers and specialists in transparency and accountability. Janaina Jatoba, Community and Institutional Development Manager at the C&A Institute, will represent the organisation at the meeting.

The goal is to produce a draft set of guidelines and recommendations for the use of information on philanthropy, representing the first field consultation of the project. To that end, during the three-day meeting relevant issues will be identified and discussed, and work priorities will be established.

The Global Philanthropy Data Charter initiative is supported by Instituto C&A.
