WINGS Dispatch: Global data for better philanthropy | View Newsletter
This edition of WINGS Dispatch is about data. How do we handle the data deluge? We know we can't do it alone—partnerships are essential, now more than ever. Robert Kirkpatrick (UN Global Pulse) says Big Data needs to be treated as a public good, pointing out that data can't be fully exploited without help from the private sector. Jeffrey Falkenstein of the Foundation Center explains how a lack of standards has alienated philanthropy from the Big Data space—standards Patrick Collins of the Hewlett Foundation says "could lower the cost of collaboration by making basic grants data more comparable across foundations." In this issue we ask several new WINGS members how their organisations are using data for social good, and we look at a new set of data-driven human rights grantmaker tools, along with new initiatives, websites and events across the network—and we're taking your ideas for WINGSForum 2014, The Power of Networks.
