On September 24th 2015 WINGS joined key organizations at a side event workshop of the UNGA held at the Ford Foundation, where progress of the SDG Philanthropy Platform was presented.
Helena Monteiro, WINGS Executive Director, shared a few words on the role of the platform in building an enabling environment for civil society organizations:
It’s a very good time for this collaboration between philanthropy and the SDGs work. Philanthropy can bring to the SDGs a larger pool of partners and organizations to join the cause and bring different forms of funding and resources, and also various approaches in innovation to support the work of the SDGs. On the same hand philanthropy needs support from multilateral organizations and the SDG platform to support a more favorable environment for philanthropy to work. Philanthropy is about putting private resources for the public good and this is mostly the work of civil society organizations. We need worldwide support of an enabling environment for civil society organizations to have freedom to work, and for philanthropies to be able to support the work of civil societies.
