As Brazil prepares for two mega sporting events -- the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics -- a variety of human rights issues have arisen, from forced evictions to police abuse. Meanwhile, with the increase of local wealth associated with its status as an emerging economy, many international grantmakers have reduced funding in Brazil. What does the current human rights funding landscape look like in Brazil, and what trends does it imply for Latin America? What lessons does Brazil offer as a representative of emerging powers around the world, and how do these lessons impact human rights advocacy globally?

Join us in Rio to:
  • Deepen your understanding of the human rights issues related to emerging economies and shifts in global power.
  • Explore evolving north-south dynamics in human rights advocacy.
  • Gain insights from local and regional human rights advocates and activists, and work to integrate these insights into your grantmaking and philanthropy.
  • Understand the status and role of local philanthropy in the region, identify opportunities for collaboration, and promote the human rights field.
  • Meet, exchange ideas and experiences, and identify collaborative opportunities with peer grantmakers from around the world.

Registration will open soon! The fee to attend is US$500. Capacity is limited to 30 participants. Check our website periodically for updates!
