Unpacking the New Geography of Venture Philanthropy and Social Investment
13 June 2014
OECD Headquarters, Paris, Room CC10
The OECD Development Centre and its Network of Foundations Working for Development (netFWD), the Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and Local Development (CFE) and the Science, Technology and Industry Directorate (STI) are pleased to invite you to a workshop to discuss the latest trends in venture philanthropy, social entrepreneurship and social investment in OECD and non-OECD countries.
The day will open with remarks by Jean-Michel Severino, former Head of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) who is now leading an impact investment group dedicated to African SMEs, Investisseurs & Partenaires (I&E). Session 1 will be dedicated to the European launch of the netFWD study Venture Philanthropy in Development. Dynamics, Challenges and Lessons in the Search for Greater Impact, which looks at the journey, enabling environment, incentives and drivers that led a number of philanthropic organisations to (re)define their operating model associated with the commonly used term of “venture philanthropy” – a practice based on the use of business principles and applied to philanthropy. Session 2 will present and compare successful experiences of social entrepreneurs in the North and in the South, while the Session 3 will discuss and suggest ways for governments to set an environment conducive to social investment.
To register for the workshop, please send your contact information to Florence.Longueve@oecd.org.
