Global Philanthropy Leadership Initiative
The vision for the Global Philanthropy Leadership Initiative (GPLI) is to work together to improve, develop and grow the practice and impact of philanthropy in a global context. There are issues and opportunities in philanthropy in an increasingly globalized context that only collective leadership can address. A GPLI task force comprised of a diverse set of philanthropic leaders was established in 2010 to form an action agenda centered on three priority areas of focus:
-
Improving the legal and regulatory environment for philanthropy in a global context
-
Developing models for improving and increasing collaboration in philanthropy in a global context
-
Identifying key opportunities to engage with policy makers/multi-lateral organizations.
The task force effort is intended as a bold experiment in collaborative action by key (but not comprehensive) leadership in philanthropy working in a global context. This initial effort becomes the platform on which to assess the success of the effort and evolve the concept, and will focus on short-term actions in the three areas that none of the participants or associations could do alone.
The GPLI task force co-chairs are Emílio Rui Vilar, President of the Board of Trustees for Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Portugal) and William S. White, President and CEO of The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
The Council on Foundation, European Foundation Center and WINGS will jointly support and coordinate the work of this task force.
