WINGS at the UN, emerging economies, and the future of data
This edition of WINGS Dispatch looks at philanthropy in emerging economies around the world. Alliance magazine's latest issue on emerging markets features a number of compelling voices, including our very own Jenny Hodgson (GFCF), Fernando Rossetti (GIFE) and Maria Chertok (CAF Russia). WINGS further explores the issue in a webinar on 28th March. Meanwhile, the International Forum Russia in St. Petersburg is set to host the first award ceremony for the Olga Alexeeva Memorial Prize, rewarding philanthropy development in emerging economies. According to the UNDP's 2013 Human Development Report, rapid economic growth in the Global South will bring several collaboration opportunities. WINGS will engage with the United Nations next month for a special policy dialogue on the role of private philanthropic organisations in international development cooperation. Also in this issue, we recap the successful launch of a new global consultation on philanthropy data held in Rio just weeks ago, and we take a look at the Gates Foundation data interoperability challenge.
Alliance magazine on Alexeeva prize and the Global South
WINGS Board Member Maria Chertok says "we need more chances to share experiences and find inspiration in the successes of our peers." This month, Alliance magazine does just that with its emerging markets issue. Chertok guest edited the issue with Filiz Bikmen, former TUSEV Director. WINGS sat with Chertok and longtime Alliance magazine editor Caroline Hartnell to talk about the publication and how WINGS members in the Global South and other emerging economies can share their stories. Hartnell: "We really want to find and publish good stories about philanthropy and social investment from all over the world—and this is where I hope WINGS members can help us." more »
