WINGS community foundations = WINGS-CF
WINGS corporate initiative = WINGS-CI

Joining WINGS

The WINGS network is open to organisations and groups which offer services to grantmakers and are concerned with the promotion of philanthropy. Their support activities include information, technical assistance, networking opportunities, and leadership services. As organisations they fall into one of two categories:

Membership associations serving grantmakers (they may not all exclusively serve grantmakers; some also serve a broader range of NGOs),

or

Support organisations serving grantmakers and/or promoting philanthropy (these organisations provide technical assistance to grantmakers, develop resources for them and/or advocate on behalf of grantmakers or philanthropy as a whole, but they do not have a formal membership structure themselves).

WINGS-CF and WINGS-CI

WINGS-CF is a constituent group of WINGS that consists of organisations supporting and developing community foundations. WINGS-CI is a constituent group of WINGS that consists of organisations supporting and developing corporate grantmaking. Many organisations in the WINGS network focus specifically on these aspect of philanthropy support. Others support community foundations or corporate grantmakers as part of their work with a broad range of grantmakers. Both are welcome to join the WINGS network.

Joining the network

There is at present no subscription to become a participant in the WINGS network. Interested organisations are encouraged to assess the relevance of WINGS to their work by looking at the website (www.wingsweb.org) and then, if they are interested to be considered as network participants, to contact the Director of WINGS sending some core information about their mission, structure and current activities. All network participants are expected to be active in WINGS, especially in their willingness to share information and other resources with the network, to put forward staff members or volunteers to participate in working groups, and to attend occasional face-to-face meetings including WINGSForum, the global meeting held every three or four years.

Participation in WINGS is not open to for-profit consultants and vendors though WINGS may contract with bodies in this sector to undertake specific pieces of work.
