Purpose/Mission:

Philanthropy New Zealand works to foster, inspire and promote the interests of the philanthropic and grantmaking sector in New Zealand through research, communication and education by being a credible, influential and representative voice. We are committed to:

  • supporting excellence among grant makers and learning about high quality grantmaking among New Zealand organisations
  • fostering generosity in New Zealand
  • fostering philanthropy that is based on equity, fairness and engagement with New Zealand’s diverse cultural approaches to philanthropy
  • fostering strong networks and sharing among grantmaking organisations in New Zealand
  • participating in international philanthropic networks
  • running a professional and responsive organisation providing high-quality services to members
  • being a learning organisation, and
  • supporting high quality staff.
 

Who we serve:

Philanthropy New Zealand has over 110 Trusts and Individuals as members. Membership is a mix of private Philanthropic Trusts, Statutory Trusts (banking and energy), Investment advisors and Corporate members with an interest in philanthropy.

Programmes:

  • Working with other organizations in the voluntary and not-for-profit sector on matters relating to taxation and financial concerns
  • Informal meetings with appropriate cabinet ministers and heads of departments
  • Formal submissions to select committees and Inland Revenue Department as required
  • Facilitating a continuing education programme for members and potential members
  • Facilitating research to establish a quantifiable benchmark of the funding through trust, foundation, government, and public funding agencies
  • Maintaining dialogue with other organizations involved with not-for-profit sector research
  • Coordinating national forums on funding for welfare, sport, leisure, arts, and culture
  • Providing national bi annual conference program
  • Organizing regional trustee education seminars
  • Facilitating independent financial specialist workshops
  • Providing a quarterly magazine for members
  • Attending speaking engagements
  • Linking with other sector groups
