The International Network of Women's Funds (INWF) is a group of women's funds from the global south and the global north that are committed to a world of equality and social justice.
INWF is part of a global women's movement that, using a gender lens, is redefining the concept and praxis of philanthropy, one in which the global south and the global north are working as equals, and one in which the act of giving is not the privilege of just a few but of all.
International women's funds are an effective instrument because we approach philanthropy with a transformative gender lens, know the needs of our local communities and are able to direct resources towards solutions for lasting change.
INWF promotes an alternative vision for the act of "giving" based on the principles of trust and empowerment. Our approach to sustainability is both political and financial, and places women's funds from various countries of the globe as a key lever for change. Member funds contribute to the network as equal partners both with financial resources (given proportionate to size) and with their human capacity and talents. |

Programmes: |
 |
• Active education of mainstream donors and networks of donors (foundation, corporate, individual) around the strategic advantages of a feminist, non-hierarchical philanthropic model; this might include funder roundtables, dinners and cocktail receptions at donor conferences and gatherings, as well as "teach-ins".
• In consultation with the member funds, identify influential leaders outside the INWF who can be spokespeople for the INWF and can reach out across a wide array of sectors.
• Creation of a quality alternative evaluation methodology/tool to capture the "know-how" of the women's funds as well as their effectiveness and the impact of their grantmaking.
• Development of a communications strategy (in various languages), including quality informational materials designed for the philanthropic sector.
• Systematization (in various languages) of the international and global south women's funds experiences and lessons learned in fundraising strategies.
• Facilitation of two to four regional meetings each year of women's funds to promote exchange of information among members and monitor and respond to their changing needs.
• Match members up to resources that may already exist through Women's Funding Network (WFN), Synergos, National Hispana Leadership Institute, Instituto la Raza, Ford Foundation Philanthropy fellows, Ashoka, Women without Borders, and others, and provide periodic one-on-one assistance to member funds when other tools do not exist (e.g., in the area of endowment planning).
• Represent the INWF at the Board of WFN in the name of all the INWF member funds.
• Act as a formal Advisory Council to WFN to ensure that the perspective of international women's funds is incorporated into the planning and development of new tools and activities for its members.
• Fundraise for activities of the network |
