Following in the footsteps of its founder, Reinhard Mohn, the Bertelsmann Foundation is committed to the common good. Its work is based on the belief that competition and civic commitmnet are essential for societal change. The Bertelsmann Foundation strives to promote reforms that lead to a sustainable society. It seeks to identify societal challenges and problems early on, in order to develop stratgies for reform and implement innovative solutions.
The Philanthropy and Foundations Division of the Bertelsmann Foundation seeks to foster civic engagement and professional philanthropy. Its goal is to encourage the creation of new foundations, especially community foundations and to enhance the management quality, organizational effectiveness and innovation capacity of foundations. The main activities in the community foundation field are the “Transatlantic Community Foundations Network” (TCFN) and the “Initiative Bürgerstiftungen”.
